Unfulfilled

Friday, February 28th, 2003

Just got email from Apple to inform me that there was — surprise, surprise — a delay in shipping my iBook. They expect to ship it to me the same day that I fly down to Sacramento. Whee!
[UPDATE: They shipped it Saturday morning.]

Well, someone finally figured out how the War On (Some) Terrorism could be good for the economy: the state of California has been selling stuff confiscated at airports on eBay.
There’s something wrong about this, even if I can’t quite put my finger on it. But speaking of which, I doubt there’s much market [...]

At last — a Reversi/Othello game for Windows that’s not only beautiful, but winnable! (Here’s a screenshot.)

The annoyance of a constant busy signal when trying to call the unemployment office was just about made up for by their hold music when I finally did get through: “Walk Like An Egyptian.” Whoa.

Not sure how this managed to go a month before being forwarded to me, but now that I’ve seen it, here’s an excellent analysis of George II’s justification for war on Iraq that any American can understand. (It’s written, naturally, by a Brit.)

So in the course of checking out the bargain-basement house market here in Portland, my sweetie left up a page which detailed a somewhat interesting house. On that page was a link to the seller’s agent’s website, which I have not already linked to because I want you to know that it is possibly [...]

Well, That Sucked…

…no pun intended. Jeez, the next time I want to watch a vampire movie, I’ll get a good one.
Louis: Vampires pretending to be humans pretending to be vampires.
Claudia: How avant-garde!
Apparently, that joke is only funny once.

My two favorite “governmental recommendations” from this week’s Onion Infographic on preparing for terrorist attacks:

Smear lamb’s blood on doorpost so terrorists will pass over it
Securely duct-tape shut any books you may own about civil liberties, U.S. Constitution

One of the most compelling arguments for me to have cable TV has always been that it’s nice to have access to good sci-fi TV. (Mind you, I’ve only *had* cable once, for just long enough to tape Babylon 5.) However, if I were a current subscriber, I’d have to seriously reconsider that [...]

Well, the iBook has been ordered (thanks, Sierra!) and now just has to be customized and shipped to me. Which means that, barring any major catastrophes in the customization process, I’ll probably have a shiny new laptop, complete with wireless networking card, with me when I go down to Sac.
Which means that, since I [...]

Today’s Joy of Tech is definitely worth a peek. Astute viewers will notice the similarity to a previous strip.
[UPDATE: in case you missed it, check out the book the female is carrying. It's entitled "Batleths: The Missing Manual."]

But Is It Art?

So Ernie linked to a very interesting online comic called Same Difference, which then reminded me of another online comic that Neil Gaiman had linked to a while back. So I went to look up the other one and, sure enough, it was there in Neil’s journal right above a link to… Same Difference. [...]

Having written a check for an iBook — and ordered a few accessories, like a wireless router and a FireWire card for my PC — I’m suddenly finding it much harder to resist the lure of the iPod.

I’m all for distance learning, but it just seems wrong to be able to take a class called “Health & Fitness for Life” over the Web. There is at least this tidbit, though:
Required Orientation: Sylvania Campus: Wed., Apr. 2, 6-8:30p.m., HT gym, Students should wear workout clothes and white sole athletic shoes.
