…of people talking about Ruby, and even hacking a bit (though perhaps not as much as I might have liked). The day got off to a bit of a slow start, but I had a great time after lunch, and the last two sessions I went to kicked major ass.

I just had a horribly resource-consumptive idea: running a Rails app on JRuby, using the GemStone appliance as a persistence layer. Of course, the Ruby-to-Java marshaling might impose prohibitive performance overhead… but still, it’s an amusing thought. (=
I’m at RubyCamp, the organizers are putting together the schedule, and there are at least 60 people here — every single one a man. [b]Oy!
(The programming gender gap is pretty large generally, but at least in Portland we have a few women who show up. I guess here they all have something better [...]
…well, no. I’m still as American as I ever was. But, this weekend finds me in the vast northern wasteland that is Vancouver, British Columbia — home of Science World, toonies, and the Jaunty Crosswalk Guy! Oh, how I’ve missed thee, cheery little icon of carefree pedestrianism.
