The Latest Awesomeness
- The Nerd Handbook, an eerily accurate description of life with the Sam,
- A blog post comparing software development to animating Frankenstein’s monster, which contains this choice quote:
Software development is a lot like building Frankenstien’s monster. You start out with a pile of useless ugly pieces, and try to turn it into something beautiful. Along the way, it’s a monstrosity, and tends to get uglier as you tack new bits onto it. Then it kills people.
- And one of the coolest tech toys I have *ever* seen, available for under a hundred bucks in DIY hardware (including a Wiimote, which is turning out to be the UberToy for all the cool projects that use it). Check out the video: they seem unnaturally focused on replicating the Microsoft Surface UI, but realize that this is a person manipulating objects on screen by waving his hand around. Just like that scene in Minority Report. I drool.
- Did you skip the previous bullet point because it mentioned technology? Go back and watch the video. It’s that cool.
- I read Accelerando this past weekend. I hope to get around to publishing a longer review of it, but the short version is this: Accelerando is the true sequel to Snow Crash. If you liked that, read this.

Coincidentally, I saw this http://www.funhostr.com/p/S0Nuv4Pk/Read_all_9_hints on BBSpot today.

I prefer Johnny Lee’s Wiimote whiteboard light pens. The video you posted looked like he was having a hard time getting much accuracy with the gloves.

Greg: Well, yes — those would probably be more usable, given that they use a reference frame, rather than the relative motion of hand-waving. But the gloves definitely win on coolness.
